Laura is Up for 4 Wammies!

You probably already know that my wife is an award-winning singer-songwriter here in DC. Her song, A Little Note, won the Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies) best song of the year when it came out. Her album, Heart of the Great Unknown, received a Wammie for Contemporary Folk Album when it debuted. That album has as its signature track a song that was inspired by our adoption of Ruchi, from an orphanage in India at the age of eight. Her rendition of Auld Lang Syne was used by The Young and the Restless in its entirety for their New Year’s episode in 2020.

Her awards are too numerous to mention, and I am immensely proud of her. I also treasure her presence in our home, where her music is with us every day. She picks up the guitar for 10-30 minutes multiple times every day, and fills our house with her wonderful melodies and craft. We also have the occasional rehearsal or jam session when her friends stop by to play together. It’s wonderful!

Last year Laura released Breakfast with Buddha, which you can listen to or download for free here. It has already made a splash, and it is up for four WAMMIES: best folk album, best folk artist, and two nominations for best folk song: I Will Whisper Your Name, and Catch You.

If you live in DC, Maryland or Virginia, you can vote for her in this year’s event – if you do it today! The voting stops at midnight tonight. I want you to vote for her (I am totally biased)! If that calls to you, here’s what you do:

  1. Visit wammiesdc.org to register (it’s free and takes 2 minutes). Go to that page and scroll down to the big button that says “Nominate/Vote.” That’s where you register.
  2. Then sign in and vote here: https://wammiesdc.awardsplatform.com
  3. Scroll down just a little and write “Laura Baron” in the search box.
  4. After you press your return key, scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see her four entries. Click on those you wish to vote for. That’s it! If you have any questions, send me a note.

If you don’t want to vote, or you don’t live in the DMV, please just enjoy her music. Her fan base is growing. She has a brand new Facebook group, Laura Baron World, that is about to hit 200 people (if you’re the 200th she has something special for you!). You can find that here.

“We are a force no wind can shatter. We see the light; that’s all that matters.
We are strength. We are patience. We are faith. This is our day.”
