Art to Say What Cannot be Said

Art to Say What Cannot be SaidGregos creates street art in France, often using 3-dimensional faces. His work above expresses what words cannot, feelings seeking expression.

What do we do in the face of tragedy? How do we bear what cannot be borne? It changes us irrevocably, like a splash of white in an otherwise dark head of hair. The trauma shows through, makes a home for itself where it can be lodged and integrated in time.

Today the eyes of the world are on Ukraine. We yearn to find a way to contribute. Sending money is not enough because our souls desire to pitch in. We want to sweat and work to make a difference, seeking the reward of exhaustion that comes from giving our all in the face of overwhelming odds.

This week I aim my spirit toward Ukraine, seeking to penetrate the miasma and bring light. At least there is art, to leave a record of the anguish like tracks in the snow. And to inspire.

How will you act on your deepest callings this week?

“There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well.” – Walter Reuther
