Today, I’d like to talk about one of my books: Building Beehives: Creating Communities that Generate Returns.  I wrote this book just coming out of the World Bank where I was part of a small team of four, who worked to build 120 communities around the world. Through our work, we learned a lot about what it takes to get a community to generate the kind of returns that work in concert with the organization’s strategy.

In Building Beehives, I lay out what it takes to create a successful community, how you know when a community is performing, the three elements that it takes for the community to thrive and deliver value to the association. The book includes cases studies, on the Federal Chief Information Officers, the World Bank, the Institute for Operational Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), and the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA). I also include a template for an exercise called Jump Start Storytelling. I’ve done this exercise in organizations to much success. You can find it on, or my website.
