In 2008 the American housing bubble burst, setting off a global financial crisis and recession. At the time, I was leading a change initiative with Royal Dutch Shell and had an opportunity to listen to the executives’ chatter. What was interesting is that they were not just focused on the dark times looming ahead, but how to rise during them. They recognized that when there is a global economic reshuffling, organizations go up as well as down. They were thinking about how Shell would rise.
