I took my daughter, Ruchi, and our two dogs, Divya the puppy, and Kaya the German shepherd, to a local campground last Friday night. It was a first for Ruchi and Divya and we had a blast. As always the trip was full of adventures. Here’s two:
1. After dark a group of eight cyclists came through on the trail near our site, with big headlamps on their bikes. They were night riders! I have never seen this, pumping through the wilderness in the dark. What an exciting thing to see!
2. As we were packing up to leave suddenly our dogs began barking at something on the ground. It took some inspection, but soon we saw a bat on its back. Its heart was pumping wildly and could be seen. It was about the size of my hand and one of its wings was outstretched. I thought it was too injured to save and said so. But, Ruchi disagreed. She wanted to warm it up so we brought over one of our sleeping bags to put it inside. I lifted a leaf that was pinning down its outstretched wing and it immediately folded it up. Now it was just the size of the palm of my hand, so furry and small. Its color was the same as the fall leaves everywhere on the ground. As I used leaves to pick it up, I turned it over to place it in the sleeping bag. That’s when it stood up and flew away! Its life was saved because of Ruchi’s determination. It was a joy to see it take off and lift into the sky.
You never know what adventures await you in life. What will you be doing in the week ahead?
