In my work, I take inspiration from the god Hephaestus at his forge, crafting bold, unwieldy structures designed to channel immense forces. Not fire and molten metal, but ideas. Systems. The human will to do better, to become more. I see that in every change program I contribute to.
This is one of my favorite pictures of Hephaestus attached, imagining him with his hammer at his anvil all entirely made of galaxies.
I imagine my work shaping the tools that make great change possible, using the vision of the leaders I support.
Hephaestus was cast down so hard that he became lame. A wounded healer, he forged the tools of the Olympic gods. His works included Zeus’s thunderbolts, Achilles’ armor, and Hermes’ winged helmet and sandals.
In the same spirit, I work with leaders to create what isn’t yet visible. Right now, that includes identifying the biggest breakthroughs in physics in medicine over the coming decade with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, and eliminating mental health and substance use disorder stigma nationwide through Stop Stigma Together.
If you happen to know of any more significant projects, I have room for them. I’m keeping my eyes and ears open for great change.
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
– Barack Obama
