Last week I traveled to the University of Utah, my first time in the state. That’s me above next to the giant U on campus.
I went to meet with the leaders of the Huntsman Mental Health Institute to discuss an initiative to lower the stigma of mental illness across the nation.
It’s a powerful proposition. Imagine the lives that would be saved, the improvement in the quality of life and the relief from suffering, the opening of avenues for treatment and care for everyone involved, patient, parents and family, friends, colleagues…the whole world, really, because the freedom from this stigma would mean that people, including leaders of all kinds, would be free to seek treatment without the many barriers created by stigma.
Increased mental health would spread and become a hallmark of our civilization, and that would change the world not only for us but for untold future generations. Just imagine if we could do something that would make that possible. That’s what this work is about.
My trip to Utah was a success. I look forward to leading this initiative.
What challenges will you address in the week ahead, to make the world a better place?
“ Life is a song – sing it.
Life is a game – play it.
Life is a challenge – meet it.
Life is a dream – realize it.
Life is a sacrifice – offer it.
Life is love – enjoy it.”
