Heading into the Wilderness this Week

This photo is from a familiar trail I’ll be traveling along the North Fork of the Bouquet River. It’s in the great state of New York, about 50 miles south of the Canadian border and the same distance west of Burlington, Vermont. In the middle of the picture, you’ll see a special someone who will be with me. Kaya and I head out annually to get away from the grid. It’s always a time of meditation and deep introspection for me. Nature is my guide.

This year, I am expecting a few thunderstorms and some rain, but I will go regardless. There will also be sun, nature’s beauty, and the river.

I will carry this poem by Thich Nhat Hahn in my heart:

Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Bring the Earth your love and happiness.
The Earth will be safe
when we feel safe in ourselves.

“One is not exposed to danger who, even when in safety, is always on their guard.”
– Publilius Syrus
