Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™

One of my greatest joys this last year was working with leaders at the American Nurses Association (ANA) on their grand challenge, Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™.

In every category except smoking nurses are less healthy than the average American. Yet nurses are central to our health. They work in hospitals, medical offices, clinics, battlefields, schools and everywhere they are called upon to serve. Their devotion and work provides necessary  treatment for millions – our lives depend on them. Yet, they suffer from unnecessary stress, exhaustion, poor diet and injuries. By measurably improving the health of America’s 3.4 million nurses, Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ will improve the health of the nation through their caregivers.

Grand challenges are extraordinary goals that contribute to life. The ANA is one of several organizations I have the privelege to work with on these amazing, inspiring, and difficult initaitives. I am so happy that leaders like Marla and Pam are taking up these bold and difficult tasks to invigorate their organizations by making the world a better place.

I am filled with gratitude this holiday season for people who use their positions of influence to contribute so beautifully and powerfully to our world.

As you move outside of your comfort zone, what was once the unknown and frightening becomes your new normal.
