I am fascinated by forecasting the future. Everyone wants to have their very own crystal ball! I am writing a book right now of simple techniques businesses large and small can use to develop their strategic foresight. But, let’s turn to how you can win in the week ahead.
If you could see the week ahead, what would you do (besides lay a few bets)? Is there something you can take advantage of to make things a little sweeter?
There are some events we can be sure of, like the sun coming up in the morning or, if you prefer, the Earth continuing to spin on its axis. I say this because we depend upon it day after day for our very existence. Perhaps there are events in your life you can be just as sure of, relatively speaking.
For example, you can be sure you will head out to work each each weekday, dedicating time to travel. Or, if you are self-employed or retired, you can pretty much bet that you will be going through your morning routine. Think now about how you could use that to your advantage. Here are some ideas:
- If you always have morning coffee with your partner, surprise them with a tiny gift to start their day off right.
- If you always head out in your car or travel by train, do something the night before that will make your morning commute a tiny bit nicer like putting out a little snack you enjoy or downloading a new podcast you would appreciate.
- If you set your kids out on their day, drop a kind note in their lunchbox or backpack where they will find it.
- If you see the same co-worker every morning, think ahead and prepare a few words of gratitude for them. It’s a great way to start the day.
Take the time now to influence your future, and make it what you want it to be.
