Mental Health Anti-Stigma Grand Challenge

Mental Health Anti-Stigma Grand ChallengeWe find ourselves at a unique time. Mental health is at the forefront of discussion in every sector of society—workplaces, schools, lawmakers, media, and community leaders. In addition, philanthropists are stepping up to align their names and giving with mental health. We are in a window of tremendous opportunity.

And that’s why I am in Salt Lake City right now. I am leading a gathering of national leaders who will architect a plan to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders. The Huntsman Mental Health Institute is our “backbone organization,” the home of this initiative.

I am so honored to have been chosen to lead the design and execution of this national Grand Challenge.

I have had fun working with the leadership at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute to bring together national leaders that include marginalized community leadership. Native American, African American, Asian American, and LGBTQ+ leaders will be part of this from its inception.

Also, researchers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, documentary producers, students, and esteemed thought leaders. Two CEOs I have worked with to lead other Grand Challenges will be joining us including Dale Cyr who is currently running the Ultrasound Proficiency Grand Challenge (I will write about this amazing initiative in future Mojos).

It’s going to be a historic gathering.

Where does your passion lead you? How will it manifest this week?

“There is no health without mental health; mental health is too important to be left to the professionals alone, and mental health is everyone’s business.”
