Ode to Sandwich Guy

Upon the streets of Washington,

A hero’s tale has just begun.

With fury high and hunger near,

He hurled his sub without a fear.

A salami missile, wrapped in haste,

A symbol none could quite erase.

It struck the vest, then tumbled down,

Yet shook the powers of the crown.

Bondi cried, The Deep State’s here.

This sandwich proves our greatest fear.
The nation chuckled, wide and free,

At meat and lettuce treachery.

So raise your hoagies to the sky,

In honor of brave Sandwich Guy.

Not all resistance must be grand.

Sometimes it’s just what’s in your hand.

“Too few people understand a really good sandwich.”

James Beard
