From ancient times, people have welcomed the new year with rituals to attract good fortune. Why? Because it’s a natural symbol of new beginnings. Although time (the calendar, days, hours) is an artificial construct by people to help us with our lives, it reflects the very real cycle of seasons here on Earth. A “new year” is a time to begin again, and that means both taking a retrospective look at what has happened as well as the opportunity to set our sights on what we would like to transpire.

Those of you who know me well know I love strategy, so much so that I dedicate a great deal of personal time to studying it. Why? Because strategy is the way we lift ourselves up and out of where we are today and achieve new heights, expanded capabilities, and improved circumstances.

There are personal strategies as well as professional ones and I am a fan of both. Anytime I find a new tool for setting and achieving goals, I am all about learning and trial, eager for the opportunity to increase my ability to get results or generate greater contributions for my family and the world. And that is why January 1 is my favorite day of the year, the most auspicious symbol of a new cycle.

I wish you and yours greater health and well-being, more joy and love, and improved circumstances to do your best. May this week kick off your year with an eye to greater prosperity in all dimensions that are worthwhile!

And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.
