Out of the Gate!

I love the beginning of the week! That’s why I started Monday Morning Mojo, to share the mojo I always feel when the week commences. It’s like the starting gate opening at the beginning of a race! What can be done this week? Go!!!

In my book, Getting Change Right, I wrote that real momentum is generated through engagement. Not in isolation. Not in a project plan. Momentum comes alive when people work together.

So, here is what I am doing today, Monday:

I start at my desk by recalling a recent success. It does not have to be monumental. For example, I did two workouts this last weekend, and I completed a tough call. When I connect with those wins, I feel my confidence rise. That spark is valuable, my fuel!

Then I identify one meaningful action for the week. Something that moves a relationship forward or advances a project that matters. Clarity gives me traction. Without it, I cannot get a grip, and I will lose energy.

For example, I am now looking for my next Grand Challenge. I am going to reach out to some of the leaders I met through Stop Stigma Together to let them know my calendar is free and I am looking for the next big intractable issue to take on!

Then I will reach out. Every breakthrough I have ever been part of gained strength through connection. A brief conversation, a shared idea, or a simple offer of support can create a surprising lift. When I reach out to those mental health leaders, the vast majority of them won’t have something for me. But the conversation will energize at the same time it spreads the word. Time well spent!

1. Ground myself in past successes. 2. Choose a meaningful action. 3. Reach out. That’s my plan! What’s yours?
