Saturday I took my son, Gabe, to a meeting with Andrew Kutt the founder of the Oneness Family Montessori School (OnenessFamily.org). The three of us were going to discuss the curriculum I will be presenting this year to the high school students on Visionary Leadership.
It is the first year of the High School, a natural extension of the elementary and middle schools Andrew founded in 1988. Gabe went to that school, 1st-6th grade, and my daughter, Ruchi, spent her first two years in America there just after we adopted her from India. For both of them the curriculum and teachers were a god send. I love this school, and think so much of the teachers, staff, and curriculum – unlike any other I know of.
Being around these two men, Andrew and Gabe, lifted my spirits so much so that I felt great elation on the way home! There is nothing like spending time with people who have that upbeat, aspirational outlook on life and are putting it to work.
Andrew said something to me like, “Most people my age are thinking of retiring. This high school is the most important thing I have ever done. I will be spending the next 20 years of my life on it!” Gabe said to me in the car on the way home, “I am starting my own business (GabeKahan.com – he is a writer, helping me with my next book now and already working with 4 other clients) and I may be teaching high school next year, when I am 19. That is a great way to spend a gap year!”
Spend time with the people who lift you up! They will change your state and raise your spirits. Who will you be spending time with this week?
“True beauty is born through our actions and aspirations and in the kindness we offer to others.”
