Spiritual Rock

Last Saturday night, I attended a performance by one of my favorite bands, the Guru Ganesha band.

Guru Ganesha is a musician and spiritual teacher best known for blending sacred music from the Sikh and Hindu traditions with Western musical styles. He is the founder and frontman of his band, which delivers uplifting music often categorized as sacred world fusion or kirtan rock.

I am a big fan of kirtans. A kirtan is a musical form of devotional chanting that originates in the spiritual traditions of India, especially in Hinduism, Sikhism, and certain forms of Buddhism.

Guru Ganesha adds a progressive rock element to his music, playing lead guitar accompanied by a full drum set. And there’s a rhythm guitar, a lead singer, and a wonderful electric pianist.

There’s a clear devotion element to his performances, which is one of the reasons I go. For me, it’s a great way to experience spirituality through rock. Om!
