Sometimes life is about perseverance and staying the course. It’s one of the hardest lessons because it means persisting through setbacks, and when they’re happening it’s easy to get lost in the setting back. That’s when you have to have some kind of compass to guide you through, whether it’s the longing of your own heart or a guide who can provide the kind of advice needed when the going is tough.
As a young person, I was not fortunate to have anyone to teach me about money. No one took me aside to advise me on saving, investing, or even simple budgeting. As a result, I ran up an enormous debt and spent decades juggling it from one account to another. By the time I hit forty, I owed over $200,000, including multiple IRS returns I was delinquent on. But I refused to give in and declare bankruptcy.
By carefully budgeting, getting good advisors, and putting in a concerted effort to channel my excess resources to debt relief and successfully addressing past tax returns, I could declare solvency in my fifties. Although perseverance delivered me from financial woes, it comes in handy in every area of life: health, relationships, spirituality, personal growth, career, you name it.
Is there an area of life or business you feel ready to give up on? If so, how can you gather the inner resources to continue?
“Patience, persistence, and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.”
– Napoleon Hill
