Last week in downtown Bethesda outside a coffee shop there was a horse tied up. Not a sculpture, but a real horse, reins slack, calmly standing while the weekday crowd streamed past with laptops and lattes in hand.
In the middle of our efficient, well-scheduled, productivity-optimized world, this enormous, beautiful creature stood there, completely at ease.
We live in motion. We measure ourselves by output, responsiveness, and speed. Yet the horse reminded me that strength does not require frenzy. Power can be quiet. Presence can be commanding.
Starting on a good foot is not about rushing into Monday. It is about knowing who you are, aware of your capacity, and stepping forward with intention.
“Horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people.”
