I am currently working on two Grand Challenges, the Ultrasound Proficiency Grand Challenge – by 2030, every user of medical ultrasound in the world will be proficient, ensuring patient safety and increasing equity in healthcare; and the Mental Health Anti-Stigma Grand Challenge – to eradicate the stigma associated with mental health across the nation. Each of these has my creative fire turned up high.
I find myself thinking about them after work and on the weekends. This is not from a place of trying to do too much when I should be resting, but from a place of real joy and creativity. I am genuinely energized by the impact of these amazing initiatives.
Of course, I take time off and even engage in mental activities to be sure I get the needed breaks, including personal and family time because those are also important to me. But, today I write about the infectious excitement that doing this kind of work kindles in my soul.
When I talk to my clients and leaders this work puts me in contact with, my mood elevates and my imagination is activated. I start thinking about new ways of doing things and breaking through existing barriers. Most of all I am enticed and inspired by the possibility of improving lives. Grand Challenges have become my muse!
Where will you go this week for that extra lift to carry you beyond the day-to-day?
“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”
