Well Wishes to Gregg Martin in Ukraine

Major General Gregg Martin is a United States Army two-star general who retired in 2014. From July 2012 to July 2014, he was the President of the National Defense University at Fort McNair Army Base in Washington, D.C. from July 2010 to July 2012, he served as the Commandant of the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA. He served as second in command for the 3rd Army/US Army Central in the Central Command Area of Responsibility, including support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and across the CENTCOM region from January 2010 to April 2010.

He is also my friend and colleague working with all of us on Stop Stigma Together, eliminating the stigma around mental health and substance use disorders across the country. As of this very moment, he is in Ukraine working with the military on mental health, sharing his expertise and experience.

Gregg is also known as the Bipolar General because of his own mental health journey with bipolar disorder. Today, he is a staunch advocate for mental health. He opened our recent Stop Stigma Together conference, where he received a standing ovation. His journey is powerful because of his vulnerability, revealing his struggles in intimate detail as well as his life strategies. He stayed at our conference until the end, networking, learning, and sharing his experience. He was one of the guiding lights, lifting us all with his spirit.

Well wishes to you in Ukraine, Gregg!

“There is no health without mental health; mental health is too important to be left to the professionals alone, and mental health is everyone’s business.”
