A True Gift

Buckminster Fuller had a life-changing mystical personal experience that re-oriented and revitalized his life. This incident provided him with a deep sense of purpose. When he recounted it he told others he heard a voice that spoke directly to him and said:

“ From now on you need never await temporal attestation to your thought. You think the truth. You do not have the right to eliminate yourself. You do not belong to you. You belong to Universe. Your significance will remain forever obscure to you, but you may assume that you are fulfilling your role if you apply yourself to converting your experiences to the highest advantage of others.”

Fuller went on to discover how much he could contribute and made many major significant offerings to humanity including his design of the geodesic dome and inventions that improved life on “Spaceship Earth” (as he called it) in the areas of transportation and shelter. He was a remarkable and prolific innovator.

It can never be known where that voice came from. But, it provided Fuller with the impetus he needed to channel his life’s work to the benefit of humanity.

What might you do this week that would be a true gift, a genuine offering for the benefit of others?

“Life is not accumulation. It is about contribution.”
