A common reaction when I tell people that we adopted Ruchi when she was eight from India, “Oh, she’s so fortunate.” The truth is we are all so fortunate. Those are not just words. My life has been immeasurably transformed in beautiful ways by my daughter’s presence from the first moment she was with us.
I am infinitely grateful to Laura for suggesting we take this path together, and for our son, Gabe’s support. Most of all, I am so grateful to be part of this young woman’s life.
Ruchi has taught me about Hinduism. She used her spirituality to survive her time on the street alone. She credits it with being able to hold on until she found safety. I find myself entranced with and moved by the mythology and practices. I enjoy participating with her.
That’s just one example of how she has changed my life.
In the week ahead, look for the gifts brought to you by others who are different than you.
