It got cold fast here in DC. This morning it was below freezing. That’s me and my faithful companion, Sita, in the park around 06:45 today. I am always amazed by how she likes the cold. It’s her German blood, I am sure. Her breed is bred to work outdoors in the hills of Germany. Tonight it was about 35°F and she was content to recline on the back steps and watch the world in peace.
As I travel to and fro to client appointments and conducting errands for my family this city, I take special pleasure in the changing of the seasons around me. One of my great loves is going through the cycle of the year here at this particular latitude and longitude. Each phase of the year has its own distinct characteristics and flow in the mid-Atlantic, between the Appalachian mountain range and the eastern coast. We have a good four seasons, even if the progression often seems to take two steps forward and one step back as one season passes into the next. Nonetheless, I appreciate them all.
What natural cycles might you enjoy in the week ahead? Do you have a special event coming up soon that you are preparing for?
“Beauty is the only thing that time cannot harm. Philosophies fall away like sand, creeds follow one another, but what is beautiful is a joy for all seasons, a possession for all eternity.”
