How to Deal with 2025 Disruptions

I have been supporting CEOs and executives for over 25 years. This includes large organizations like the World Bank and Royal Dutch Shell as well as 100+ nonprofits ranging in size from $10–300 million in annual revenues. I helped leaders deal with 911, the 2008–2010 Subprime Mortgage Crisis, and the 2020 Covid Pandemic response. Today, we are being whiplashed by on-again, off-again tariffs, regulatory volatility, the politicization of business norms, and more. I have created a set of recommendations for the people in charge of steering our organizations during these difficult times that I call the Disruption Playbook.

In the Disruption Playbook, I have identified seven key areas leaders must pay attention to. For each, I include a Leadership Insight and two actions you can take now. The seven key areas are:

  1. Situational Awareness
  2. Strategic Agility
  3. Stakeholder Alignment
  4. Value-Driven Decisions
  5. Visibility and Voice
  6. Culture of Adaptation
  7. Systemic Foresight

In today’s unpredictable environment, leadership requires more than resilience — it demands energy, intention, clarity, and adaptability. This Disruption Playbook offers a roadmap for executives to lead with foresight and integrity amid political volatility, cultural shifts, and systemic uncertainty.

By cultivating situational awareness, embracing strategic agility, aligning stakeholders, making value-driven decisions, maintaining a visible voice, nurturing adaptive cultures, and advancing systemic foresight, leaders can use disruption as a catalyst for meaningful transformation. This is not about managing chaos — it’s about leading boldly through it.
