Last week, I was working with a group of leaders when someone suggested an approach that was completely different from what they’d been doing for years. At first, there was resistance. But, people got curious and the conversation became animated. New possibilities started popping. Next thing you know we had planned a 90-day pilot to try out the new idea.
Moments like that remind me how much joy there is in breaking out of familiar patterns. I’ve experienced this in my own life, too. Some of my happiest discoveries have come from trying something new, even, and sometimes especially when I wasn’t sure it would work. It’s easy to settle into routines, and yet there’s a special energy that comes from questioning tradition. When we break a tradition we open a door to a parallel universe, unanticipated consequences and all.
So this week, I’m looking for opportunities to shake things up a little, try something different, and see what happens. Here’s to a week filled with curiosity, discovery, and delightful surprises!
