Service Dog, Divya

Divya means divine in Hindi. Little Divya will accompany my daughter, Ruchi, to college when Ruchi starts at in just 3 weeks.

That’s Divya with me riding in the back seat of our car.

When Ruchi first started telling me she wanted a dog to accompany her to class, I was skeptical. Who would train the dog? And did little Divya have the right temperament? Would the college allow it? I had many questions.

But, Ruchi’s intention crossed all barriers. After weeks of training, coached by professionals, Divya has proven her mettle. She has demonstrated her abilities on campus, in restaurants, and all across town.

Ruchi advocated for and received approval from the university for Divya to be designated as a service dog, welcome wherever Ruchi travels.

My good friend, Furman, shared a pertinent poem with me today. It’s below.

Listen To The Mustn’ts

Listen to Mustn’ts, child, listen to the Don’ts.
Listen to the Shouldn’ts, the Impossibles, the Won’ts.
Listen to the Never Haves, then listen close to me.
Anything can happen, child, Anything can be.
