Sustaining Momentum

Writing today from up in the sky on my way to Orlando from Chicago. As fortune would have it I am in the midst of 15 days of back-to-back engagements, mostly at home in the DC area, but also in the two cities mentioned above plus Las Vegas.

Consulting, as a colleague says, is lumpy. It comes in waves, like restaurant work. I have fond memories of waiting on tables all through my college years, and also washed dishes and bussed tables. Not kidding… fond – I loved my restaurant days!

During these extended periods of work when I must sustain momentum I find it helpful to invest in certain activities. Most important to me are sleep, exercise, pleasure reading and meditation. I don’t always get to all of them, but I choose these when circumstances afford me the option. I am much happier, and I am sure, more fun to be with as a result. I am also fortunate to love my clients so I genuinely enjoy the conversations and interactions.

What are your renewing activities? When you need to sustain momentum, make sure you choose well when you have the option!
