When I was 14 my father took me on a 2-week excursion into east Texas and Arkansas. We were living in Austin. One of our first stops was Davy Crockett National Forest.

My dad loved to fish and camp, a real change from the native Brooklynite he was. I remember heading over to this spot by Sam Rayburn reservoir where he cast his line in. Boom!  He caught a fish.

And another. And another. Soon all the other fishermen were watching us as their lines hung limp. One after another he reeled in bluegills. That’s him above halfway through his adventure.

He handed me his single-lens reflex camera and asked me to take a picture.

Have you ever hit a winning streak when those around you were dry?  It was so much fun. We cleaned and ate what we caught.

Where do you want to toss your line in this week?
