Grand Challenges represent society’s wicked problems—complex, persistent, and difficult to solve due to incomplete, contradictory, and ever-changing demands. Yet, addressing them is essential for humanity and life on Earth to survive and thrive. That’s why I have started my new podcast, Seth Kahan on Grand Challenges.
My work is dedicated to confronting these monumental issues. These challenges are too vast for any single mind to comprehend or solve fully. That’s why I decided to host a podcast where I interview others, taking on some of the most complex issues of our day.
Such challenges are multi-dimensional, with deep systemic roots reflected in legislation, policies, social behavior, and even individual thoughts and mindsets. These factors limit our ability to address them effectively. However, there are models and frameworks I’ve developed to help organizations and activists collaborate in making tangible progress. These stem from my experience at the World Bank, where I’ve witnessed both the successes and failures of multinational efforts, and from my work with Grand Challenges in sectors that include medical ultrasound and imaging, earth science, finance, nursing, mental health, and medical physics.
This podcast will be a combination of me sharing the tools I use to address large, overwhelming issues and interviews with other leaders. My second podcast, up now, is with Patrick Kennedy, former U.S. Congressman and renowned mental health advocate. We have a candid conversation on the urgent need to address mental health and substance use stigma. Drawing from his personal and professional experiences, Patrick shares the challenges and breakthroughs he’s encountered in advocating for mental health reform and insights into the systemic barriers that hinder progress. Together, we explore the critical role of leadership, public policy, and community action in creating a society that supports mental well-being for all. Listen in to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding mental health advocacy and hear firsthand about strategies that drive meaningful change.
Come on over and have a listen at Seth Kahan on Grand Challenges.
