Preparing for a Challenge

Preparing-for-a-Challenge2Coming back from a recent business trip I felt pretty low, and so upon entering my house before I could hug my wife and daughter I made a dash for the Covid test. There it was, a second solid line bold as could be indicating that I had the dreaded coronavirus.

Fortunately, I have been vaccinated and boosted twice. Yet, while these prepared my body for the battle with the virus, now it was time to jump into the fray in earnest. It ended up being a fairly mild ride, like an extended cold for me. A few aches, but nothing like the flu. Some nasal congestion, coughing, and a bit of dizziness.

Nonetheless, it was a good ten days before the second line on my Covid test disappeared, indicating the battle was subsiding and my body had won. I was filled with a tremendous amount of energy. That plus the beautiful day propelled me outside to take up washing my car inside and out, then planting the garden full of marigolds and my initial batch of tomatoes, which you can see above.

When a challenge comes my way, I gird for the event. Preparing and then thrusting myself into the work with my focus narrowed to the immediate objective. For a little bit, I lose the longer term and knit my brow to face the very next step with the full force of my presence. Then, once it’s over, the expanded horizon placates me and I feel free once again. And that’s how this bout of coronavirus was for me.

What direct challenge do you face this week and how will you prepare?
